Join Arctic Safari for an exciting excursion to the bird archipelago outside Tromsø – The gateway to the Arctic Ocean.'
We’d love to take you along for a trip down the coastline outside Tromsø where we’ll
meet a rich birdlife and a special coastal fauna with steep bird mountains, white sand beaches and inhabited areas surrounded with silence and fresh air from the sea.
Out here you’ll be able to witness and listen to the unique birdlife, and if we’re lucky
we might even get a visit from a minke whale, humpback whale or a killer whale.
The excursion starts with a trip out to the island Gåsvær. Gåsvær is uninhabited today, but there’s still an old church and graveyard on the island which is still being used by the locals today. If possible to take a trip on land we’ll take a walk along the beach that leads up to the light house on the other side of the island. Easy terrain all the way which makes suitable for most people. If the weather allows it, we’ll make a trip further out to one of Norway most unique bird islands – Sørfugløya.
In the period May – June, hundreds of thousand nesting seabirds like the puffins guillemots, cormorants, seagulls and more, come here. There’s also a large population of white-tailed sea-eagles, and a big opportunity to get close enough to take some great photos of these birds.
